Default How to buy a bike that has a lien on it

A friend of mine wants to buy a bike from Texas, we are in Louisiana. Louisiana is a notary state, all bills of sale must be notarized.
The seller has a lien on his bike.
Common sense tells both owners - the seller and the lien holder must be present to close the deal. However, it seems Harley Davidson Credit Corp in Ohio (this is the lien holder) has no representatives at sellers location which is League City, TX.

Can somebody with some legal knowledge shed some light on this?

Seller wants to sell, friend of mine wants to buy. We just cannot figure out how ...

Who is the lien holder? Pay him off.

Personally I wouldn't do the deal. Harley garage queens are a dime a dozen to not have to deal with a bike that has a lien it. It's just not worth it.

Thanks for replies.
This buddy of mine is very certain about what he wants to buy and this bike for sale is exactly what he wants.
So there is no way to buy a bike that has a lien on it?

You have to involve Harley Credit in the deal. Pay them off and they give you the title. Do an EFT to the Harley account in Ohio. Call them, they do this all the time.

Seller and buyer can meet up at a HD dealer. The dealer can do a dealer assisted sale for about $200. I have done this and it works very well. All paperwork is handled by the dealer. League City is a 'burb of Houston so finding a dealer shouldn't be an issue.

Here is the dealership that is 15 miles from League City. Tell them to both go there and do a dealer assisted sale like MMCbeat said.

ETA: Stubbs is 20 miles away also.

Tried that. They said they can transfer the title and lien only to an another bank.

Find another bike. Too much stuff to go wrong, & once someone has your $$, they ain't too keen on busting *** to make things right.

I only buy lien-free vehicles. Cash for clean title; new hundreds, zero exceptions.
