switching tank emblems

Welding, super glue, jb weld, blowtorch to bend them, hammer tank sides to fit, install a softail tank, duct tape, I have all kinds of ideas, but I bet none of them help you.
Take them down to the painter and dry fit, if they don't fit, see if they have any suggestions before they paint the tank. Last thing you want to do is mess up the new paint job.

We switch and instal emblems daily for a living, we do this for more than 2 decades; what you plan to do is a cool idea but will not work, because some metal badges like the one pictured are very thick and formed by the factory to the shape of specific gas tanks. of course you can take a hummer and bend any badge, but it will not work without damaging or breaking it.
There are bendable or universal OEM badges on the market if you don't like the original one.
