Default Fuel pump replacement

Bike was dieing when low on gas. Filled up, ran 30 miles fine. Was past due on replacing fuel filter, 50k miles on bike. Was thinking crack in tubes. They appear ok, but haven't inspected 100%.

I got the fuel pump out. Figure might as well replace pump and regulator, since I got it out. Any paticular brand to go with? Engine is stock now. I could see camming it or slightly more some day. Mostly just looking for reliability.

Harley? Other brand?

What about the tywraps? Something that can be installed in fuel. I got SS hose clamps.

2007 FLHTCU 50k

If it were me, I'd stay with OEM parts. Good luck

Because you believe in stock parts in general, or you think Harley makes a good fuel pump?

The link is for after market pumps. Those are not harley pumps, but pumps that replace harley pumps.

But for the prices I am seeing for after market, I am thinking since I got it out, might as well replace. I am not afraid to replace good parts before they leave me stranded. Now if they were $300 I would just put in new hoses and maybe regulator.

I just wanted to show you that aftermarket pumps were available.

Here's what I think:

If the filter was clogged or the pump was bad you'd get fuel starvation at wide open throttle (WOT) or very near it.

Fuel starvation when the tank level is low is in my experience a small break or hole in one of the flexible hoses attached to the pump. I'd replace them before I bought a fuel pump. I would also replace the fuel filter as well while I was in there.

I don't think the fuel pump is bad.

I just figure since it is out might as well replace, has 50k.

Sounds like a great idea.

If the bike runs when there is a full tank of gas, but dies as the tank runs down, then the pump is probably not the problem. I would change the filter, and reinspect the lines.
