Default Hard Starts

2003 soft tail Springer FI
it takes several attempts at cranking before she will fire up. Once she fires it runs great. I found that if I hold my finger over the IAC it will fire right up no problems. I am assuming that the iac crank steps need adjusted but I have no programmer. Am I on the right track and do I have to visit the dealership to have the crank steps adjusted?

Iac is either functioning or not. There isn't any adjustment except the tune in the ECU controls it by likely setting it to predetermined value. If the bike is not tuned or has the wrong map it might be off.

Get your fuel pressure checked.

Try cleaning the IAC. It may just be gunked up.

I've cleaned it several times and it cycles just like it should when I shut the ignition off. It just doesn't seem to close enough on cold start to give any choke effect.

Have you cleaned the contacts on the IAC? Like Max Headflow said the IAC either works, or it doesn't. The stepper functions are set within the linkage. When you say "hold my finger over the IAC" what do you mean? Are you touching it? If so try to tighten down the mounting screws.

With the air cleaner off I can cover the iac port from the I side of the throttle body. Fires right up that way. I will clean the contacts in a few.

Cleaned the contacts and put some dielectric grease on them, no difference. I will have to go get one more fitting for my fuel pressure set up in the morning. Little too much whiskey to get on the road glide now. Lol

Ignition on fuel psi cones up to 20, 55 psi while running. I did notice that the pressure bleeds of real quick as soon as the pump shuts off. Is that normal?

Nope. You got and internal tank leak in the fuel system.. Key on, Pressure to about 60 psi and hold..
