Default WTK: Need Bright Headlight Bulb

I would like to replace the stock headlight bulb on my 01 Night Train. Can someone give suggestions on the brightest out there? What should I be looking for?

From the manual, I see it's a H4 bulb. Does that mean I can pick one up at Walmart's Automotive section? Headlights are headlights, right?

I read in American Iron that NAPA has a brighter bulb than the H-4. I havent checked, but I had to replace my bulb about a month ago. I got the H-4 from Napa.

The H4 is the model of bulb you will need. Not the brightness.

There are 2 that people recommend:
Sylvania SilverStar
PIAA

I have always used the SilverStar and love the Bright WHITE light it gives off, not that BLUE crap that the other bulbs give off.

PIAA's are good, but cost more. I don't think you can go wrong with either bulb, just depends how much you wanna spend.

The H-4 Is the type of conector that fits into your h/light housing.
Look for candle power, 55/60 - 90/100 - 80/100 - 100/130, First no. is low beam, next no. high beam.
Rember, high no.s = high heat!

Thanks for the replies. I understood the H4 was the type ... but didn't explain myself very well.

I've been told by other riders that my light is not very bright, just like the rider.

ultravista,

Love the flame job on your bike. Looks great. I've seen more and more people going with this type of flame job, and I love it.

Thanks for the compliment.

The bike was painted by the previous owner, he also stretched the tank. It is a great job BUT not really my style. I would prefer to have flat black, to match the bike.

I've been looking for a set of tins on ebay and I might sell these. The dash panel & belt guard are also painted.

Call me goofy ...

You can go with the Cool Blues which are a little better with a whiter light, or go with the Sylvania Silverstars which are close to the PIAA's in brightness. I'll probably be going with the Silverstars myself soon. They will definately get you noticed!

I'll throw my kudo's in too on the boss flame job!

ultravista,

That's not being goofy. That's called making your bike yours. I'm into skulls, on me and on my bike. As I've read on other posts, alot of people don't like or can't understand the attraction to skulls. But, that's what I like. Same as you saying the flames aren't your style. It's your bike to do what YOU want to it. Not other people. To me, that's what makes Harleys so unique is all the different things people can do to them compared to other makes of bikes. Even tho people use flames, skulls, etc..... no 2 peoples' bikes are alike. Like I said, your not being goofy, just makin' your ride yours.
