Default charging or not

a couple of weeks ago I got stranded due to a dead battery, charged it up at a shop I got lucky to find. Rode home about 6 miles and watched the voltage drop all the way from 12.0 to around 8.0. Parked it for a while. charged the battery overnight and then cranked it up. voltage gauge shows 11.5 when at idle and does not climb when revving. chanced it and rode it to the local auto parts store to test the battery and it shows good. is it the voltage regulator or did the stator go belly up? Thanks for the input.

You need to run some tests to determine which part is the culprit. Go to:

Harley Davidson Forums > Do It Yourself Help Forum
- Electrical and Lighting

Read both stickies about Charging System Testing and measure as described. This will help you determine which part/or both needs to be replaced. Report back if you need assistance.
