Default My bike broke down

Hi,

Yesterday my bike started playing up. I have a 2011 Ultra Limited and it started spluttering a little which gradually got worse. the bike needed more and more refs to keep running and it also started to sound 'wrong' and very loud (over and above the revving). I stopped for 30 minuted and then started it and appeared fine but after 20 miles the process started all over again. Eventually I managed to 'limp' home but have no idea what kind of problem I am faced with. Not looking for an online solution but would interested in opinion as to what this may be.

Thanks
Vincent.

these are the things I would look at:
dirty IAC
clogged fuel filter
pinhole in fuel line inside tank
bad battery and ground connections
bad gas
fuel pump relay connections are dirty, or relay is bad

More info would help, like how many miles, was it just serviced, any mods, do you have a tuner? Color? (just kidding)

Check the big plug on the rear side of the throttle body. Remove and clean with contact cleaner.

Hi all,

the bike has done just over 19000 miles and was serviced 2 months and approx 1000 miles ago. No tuner and other than some electrical (lights and sound) and cosmetic mods nothing that has not been in place for some time. I bought it 2nd hand, 2 years ago with a 'stage one' tune and H&V pipes.

Hi All,

It would appear (according to my dealer) that my ECU is broken and needs replacing. They have a V&H FuelPak in stock which they will use to replace my HD ECU unit

Interesting because I don't think the fuelpak is a replacement for the ECU like a Thundermax.

That is correct. I use a Thundermax tuner and it's a complete replacement of the factory ECU. The Fuelpak is a piggyback tuner that is attached to the ECU. Two separate things. A bike can run without a Fuelpak but can't run without the ECU. Something is not right here.
To the OP- before you go buying something you need to get this cleared up. Whatever is causing your problem most likely won't be fixed by adding something to the mix. Either the dealer is blowing smoke (and is trying to make some money), doesn't know what they are doing or you are not getting us the whole story.

thanks. only had a brief conversation with the dealer today and will get 'full story' tomorrow and should get clarification. Based on my knowledge is more likely that I have this wrong rather than them 'blowing smoke'
