2014 Harely Radio FLASH/ the REAL "skinny"
2014 Radio FLASH/The Real "Skinny"
The new Harley Infotainment radio on the 2014 Ultra & Ultra Limited, come from Harley with the front & rear speaker outputs active with front/rear fader control active ,,,,,,
The new Harley Infotainment radio on the 2014 StreetGlide, (either version) comes from Harley with ONLY the front speaker outputs active, and NO front/rear fader control ,,,,,,
If you add the Harley BOOM speakers and amplifier to either system, along with the dealer computer FLASH for the same, the REAR speaker outputs from the radio are deactivated, and the Harley BOOM amplifier itself becomes the front/rear fading component of the system, directed by the radio for front/rear fader controls ,,,,,
IN ADDITION, the DSP inside the Harley radio is altered, supposedly for better sound, when in fact, major portions of the low frequency bass response are removed, along with increases in the midrange and upper frequencies ,,,,,,
This DSP alteration does NOT improve the sound of the audio system at all ,, in fact just the opposite takes place with this special Harley radio digital flash ,,,,,,
For J&Ms new Daytona Blue 2014 StreetGlide we added J&Ms new 5X7" rear saddlebag lid speakers, http://www.jmcorp.com/ProductDetail....ID=HSDR-5X7-14 and the 500w ROKKER XTP amplifier http://www.jmcorp.com/ProductDetail....MP-500HC14-SGP ,,,,,,,
THEN we took the bike down to the Harley dealer and had the Harley computer FLASH performed JUST to activate the rear speaker outputs (no amp) ,,,, this particular flash from Harley retains the original superior sound and bass response from the radio, but activates the handlebar controls for front/rear fader ,,,,, system performance is now fantastic ,,,,
For J&Ms new Vivid Black 2014 Ultra Ltd, we added J&Ms 500w ROKKER XTP amplifier for the ultra ,,,,,,, see http://www.jmcorp.com/ProductDetail....MP-500HC14-ULP ,,,,

I just installed an aftermarket 4 channel amp and added speakers in the lower fairings on my 2014 FLHX with the 4.3 radio. I'm thinking I only need to activate the rear speaker outputs, batwing speakers sound really good now with just amp upgrade.
Think I'll start there and see how performs. Have appointment for flash tomorrow. Unless the tech knows different.

Went to local dealer and only had them turn on rear output. Took some persuading. First they wanted to run me out of service bay. Then tech insisted he had to change from zero amplifiers to one. When that didn't get desired results insisted he had to flash amp.
Held my ground and told him what I wanted him to do. Finally did it my way. Now I have fader control and still have Speed volume control. Can't be without that! Would be a real pain in the *ss to have to mess with volume every time I slow down.
Hardly have to turn up volume to blast me off bike, but had to set Alpine MRV-F300 amp crossover switches to HP for tweeter/midrange and turn down gain and crossovers to get rid of bass. Speakers just couldn't handle any bass. I didn't pay much for my JBL 6.5 in batwing, or the Infinity 6.5 in lowers, but expected them to be able to exhibit SOME bass handling.
Will ride this way for a while and see if I get used to sound or...

I have not picked out speakers and the 7.25 Rokker XT's my friend gave me will not fit my bike. So I need to add $257.00 for the Rokker XX 6.5's or other speakers that will work.
Geez man! $150 fir a tin bracket???? $230.00 for some wires with connectors on it? Are you kidding me J&M???? By the time I pay for install hardware, go through the hassle of sending you my amp to re-flash and buy speakers...
Rockford Fosgate is looking pretty good right now... Just saying....

I apologize for the confusion ,,,,,,,
I assure you that the J&M mounting bracket is not tin, but Laser cut stainless steel ,,,,,,, ((( see http://www.jmcorp.com/ProductDetail....tID=JABK-HBW14 ,,,,,,
the plug-n-play USA made speaker/amp connection harnesses also cost money to manufacture ,,,,,, (((see http://www.jmcorp.com/ProductDetail....AWH-HSGU14-2CH ,,,,,,,
if the RF stuff is more attractive to you at this time, then go for it ,,,,,,,
Please let us know anytime that we can be of service ,,,,,,,,
