You are correct. I only wave at riders on Harley's older than a Hydra Glide.

If I don't wave, it's usually for one of two reasons [there might be 1 or 2 more that I've overlooked]:

1) I'm starting/stopping and have the clutch in;
2) I didn't see you.

I wave 100% of the time except for these reasons,
1.I am accelerating through the gears from a stop light/sign. I am having too much fun to wave.
2. I am braking and downshifting through the gears for a stop light/sign. Listening to that wonderful back roar of the pipes.
3. I am ready to dodge that cage in front of me and I am not seeing anything that is not a potential hazard in my lane.
3. I forgot whether it is two fingers down, palm up, or just a finger lift. It used to be so easy before we got the internet and forums to discuss our every action.
4. I am too blinded by your auxiliary lights to see that there is a rider on board.
5. I just waved to nine hundred and sixty two other bikes and got bored. I thought this stretch of canyon before 9:00 AM would have beat the crowd, but I was wrong once again.
6. I was thinking of my new girl friend and even though I saw you, it did not connect with my hand. I was smiling too much, riding hard and new girlfriend, not much else can fit into my head at those times.
7. My hand is frozen to the bar because I thought it was going to warm up and it hasn't.
8. I thought you were a bicycle. Damn those LED lights. I don't wave to anyone wearing spandex, well, I did wave to this really cute hottie in spandex.
9. We are on a divided hwy, a curve where my floorboards are singing, or there is gravel, wet leaves, or there is a nearly naked hottie (bikini, cutoffs) over there watering her lawn/ tubing / whatever.

10. I can be an *******. Actually, I am a curmudgeon.

I am getting 7" more snow this weekend and I have cabin fever. If I did not have a 1.75 of Jack and 1.75 of Jim and a new girlfriend, there is not telling what beat to death forum topics I would bore you with, oil, best pipes, helmets, best tires, seats, counter steering, whatever, pray for spring, I am.

I used to wave to all. Assuming conditions were right... But lately I'm getting the feeling its a dying gesture around here.. That's why I started this thread.. was curious if the rest of the country was this way.. Between the overpopulation of people and the insanely high cost of living it may be time to look to greener pastures as I get closer to retiring. And clearing snow is losing its sparkle too.
