Im AMAZED at the insurance rates people pay, more so in Canada, let that be a lesson to those of you in the USA who think socialism is good and lean on the governement to take care of the "people". Only thing they take care of are friends and family.

2014 RK ... I carry a huge amount of insurance for uninsured, under insured, with high medial payouts, comprehensive, theft, accessory coverage, you name it I got it. I am not a person who normally believes in carrying large amounts of insurance, but was my first HD and got carried away. Ill pare it down someday.

I pay $420. a year through Progressive.

I was thinking that one couldn't even ride a motorcycle in Canada during four months of the year. I realize that this is not true of all of Canada, but the premiums do seem excessive.

That does sound crazy. I pay $432 a year through Dairyland and am probably over insured.

Here in Sask we have to pay the basic government insurance with the cost of the licence plate. Presently it would cost $2333 to ride my bike for the year. I get a 20% safe driver reduction which would bring the cost down to $1876. Normally I plate it for 7 months of the riding season for about $1100 then add an "Auto-pak" for an additional $110 to cover the bike while stored for the winter.

The government insurance here has been playing around with the rates making the "high risk" vehicles pay more of there share of insurance claims. When they first released the proposed rates a few years ago the rates were reported to go up considerably more and are rumoured to increase here again soon. I just about canceled the order for my Glide then as it would have been over $3000 a year.

How many of the people here that are insured with TD Insurance, which is Meloche Monnex the underwriter is Security National are getting the professionals discount and still getting high quotes? Its my understanding that they don't do you any favors if you don't either have a degree or work for one of there preferred companies.

The only Alberta advantage we have left is choice of insuring companies. About $800 for yearly full coverage on my 09. Probably jinxed myself now, eh

Lets not forget; $820 C is about $580 USD and many of these Insurance companies are headquartered in the USA. Prices in Canada are going through the roof on a lot of things and will only go higher as our Loonie becomes a chick.
