1972 Harley Shortster shifting
Hi,
I just rebuilt a little Harley Shortster mc-65. Everything turned out great, until I went to test ride it. It doesn't want to shift into gear properly. When I put it into any gear, it will pop right back out. When I took the motor apart, I made sure to keep the gears and shims in there original location and put them back in the same way. Any suggestions or advice?
Thanks

No advice as I am not a mechanic. I do minor repairs and maintenance, but counldn't take one apart that deep.
But since I need the post count, welcome from sunny almost Georgia.

Welcome from Virginia , USA ...... Since this is welcome area I am letting you know to search all forum especially Sporty section. However I am going to guess that for some reason, the shift dog (which holds the gear all way in and appears what you are saying is it does not go all way in and not that it is jumping out that it just may be adjustment that moves dog. Which may just be an adjustment. However if it goes all way in and jumps out, then it's the dog itself and probably means the attachment to the shift cam (long sloted drum) connection is not correct and it will probably all need torn back apart. Let me know what you find out in a PM direct to me when you find out. In mean time I will study the manual sine I am not a real expert on the complete setup of this transmission like I am for the Softail. (however I have been in many Toyota,Yamaha and other transmissions and can figure it out but when you are shooting in the dark like this, you need to understand how difficult it is to see whole picture.
