Default 2015 RoadGlide, Syn3 from factory!!!???

Sorry, I do not want to start another oil thread and I am not asking what oil should I use, just a question.

I just picked up a new 2015 Roadglide Special.

Dealer told me that it had Syn3 in all three holes from the factory.

Now I know they have been putting Syn3 in the CVOs for a few years now but regular bikes always had dino oil.

I don't trust the sales guy.

I am getting ready to do my 500 mile service (ya, I know HD doesn't have one but I do).

I usually keep dino oil in until 1000 miles then switch to Mobil1 V-twin.

If they really did put Syn3 in at the factory then I will put Syn3 back in at my 500 mile service until next oil change at 1000 miles, then switch to Mobil1.

If they did not put Syn3 in I would like to run dino oil until 1000 miles.

Anyone know for sure what the MOCO is putting in the 2015 bikes??

Thanks for your time

I can't answer for 2015, but my 2014 Limited did not have Syn3 from the factory. It wasn't until my first service when I switched to Syn3 that my primary became so noisy that it was thought that my compensator was having issues. Switched the primary to formula+ and noise issue went away. Given that, there was no way there was Syn3 in my primary from the factory, and unlikely Syn3 in the engine either.

ONLY the CVOs have the Synthetic from the factory.

I'm curious: why would CVOs come Syn3 and why didn't the 96s and 103s come with it, too? Was it because the CVOs ran hotter than non-CVO motors due changes in x-y-z and needed something more slippery to reduce friction thus produce less heat? I'm guessing.

Good guess, I've wondered about that too...maybe those with more knowledge then me will jump in with an answer. And from what I remember, when they switched from the '88 to the '96 in 2007 IIRC those new '96's really had heat problems.

My cynical guess on why the CVOs have Syn-3....marketing.

Just curious on your reasoning to keep dino in until 1000 miles. If you are going synthetic why wait?

I know when I picked up my bike, it had several stickers on it that said it had Syn3 in it. Like other's have said, I believe only the CVOs came with syn3 in all holes. I know a lot of folks wait until 1000 to go all synthetic but I have never fully understood why. Heck, I even did that on my 13 I had.

J929626, just my preference. That topic could be argued for ever.

By the way, went back to the dealer this afternoon. I told them my research (did not tell them HDForum) found that its regular HD dino oil in the non CVO 2015s.

They said my research was wrong. 2015 touring bikes have Syn3 from the factory.

So go figure, not just the sales guy but the service mgr and service guys say the same thing.

Hmmmmm.......

I have a 2015 Road King, it did not come with Syn3 in it. RKs are touring bikes too. I too believe the Syn3 in CVOs is more marketing than anything. I can tell you that I will never put it in my primary again. I put Syn 3 in the primary on my 2014 Limited at the 1000 mile check. It started makin all kinds of noise particularly at idle after a few hundred miles. I drained it and put good old Formula plus back in it like it comes from the factory and the noise immediately stopped. Others have found that out as well.
