Default Problem when Magellan GPS plugged in to cig. charger.

I mounted my Magellan Roadmate GPS on my Ultra. It has been working perfect in my car for over a year. I plugged it in to the cig lighter charger port on the fairing. It works fine for 10 to 20 minutes then the GPS shuts down. I have to press the manual reset on the GPS to get it to come back on. Any ideas?

Sounds like a loose connection in the cig lighter. Possibly with the added vibration. I would try and hardwire it in. Then try it you can always put a quick disconnect in

I'm going to do that. I am using the Magellan oem charging plug and the plug fuse is not blowing, but somethings up. Thanks for the idea.

You have probably already done this, but try it back in your car, if it doesn't do it there, definately issue with power source on bike, just a suggestion to eliminate source

I did. It worked fine. Apparently something is wrong with the bike that the GPS is sensitive too. At least it didn't ruin my GPS.

Have you tried it without the power source? Running on batteries should last you at least 2 hours I would think. Would at least tell you if its the power source or not.

Rode home with GPS on battery power only. No problem. A few miles from the house it dies (wasn't fully charged to begin with). I plugged the charger to it and in a couple minutes the gps shut down. So time to direct wire it.

Finally did this, this weekend. The GPS is now wired directly to the battery (w/fuse) and no problems at all. Only thing is, now I am wondering whats wrong with the circuit going to the fairing cig. lighter charging port that was causing my problem?

Anyway, I'm leaving Wed. morning for 5 days in the Smokies and all I want to be able to do is roam the mountains all day and then allow the ole GPS to guide me straight back to the motel in the evening.
