Default Changing oil on a '97 FLSTF

Thoughts on changing the oil after the bike has sat all winter-not be started versus getting the motor warmed up first? Changed the oil myself every time, just
never done it cold before--Just wondering

An older Softail that's been sitting a while may not have a lot of oil in the tank. A good deal of it could be in the engine sump. I'd start and run the bike before I did an oil and filter change.

Your bike has three oil reservoirs. I agree with nomad above about your engine oil, but in all three cases you don't need to run the bike until it is hot, but do you need to leave it for a long while as it drains in cold weather! I often take the drain plugs out and leave the bike overnight.
