What Primary Oil is your Choice

Really? You sound pretty sure, apparently Mobil 1 doesn't share your faith...

Edited to add: Found a thread on another forum from '12, take it for what it's worth: http://www.roadglide.org/14-tech-are...-any-more.html
I can only report on how it worked for me in my primary. The V-Twin 20W-50 synthetic is no longer rated JASO MA, if it still met the spec it would still have the rating; it doesn't so it doesn't. I'm sure it works fine for some people, it didn't work out too well for me. I just ordered a liter jug of LiquiMoly Racing 4T 10W-60 from Amazon, I won't get to try it in the Wide Glide until next spring but as well as the LiquiMoly 10W-60 full synthetic works in my 103 it's worth it to try the 4T in the primary. Spendy but it's JASO MA2 rated

Just curious, if the 4T 10w-40 worked so well, why are you buying the 10w-60?

It may be even better than the Mobil 1, but the only way to know is to put it in the primary and take her for a ride. I'm the same way with the mapping, I'm not a 'close enough' sort of person; I've continued to make subtle alterations and improve it. Sometimes I'm right and sometimes I'm wrong but the fun is in the doing and trying to get ever closer to the bleeding edge

It's curiosity The LiquiMoly arrived last night and if we were not under a winter storm warning right now I'd go out and try it today, the only way you can ever know something to do it. The LiquiMoly 4T may be no different than the Mobil 1 4T and if so I'll go back to the Mobil 1 4T and save myself some money: Mobil 1 4T $9.50/quart, LiquiMoly 4T $23/liter (1.0566 quart).

Unfortunately it's looking like it's going to be next spring, the snow doesn't seem to want to stop and the snow plow came by earlier spewing salt as he went... now I'm just waiting for the spring rain... and waiting, and waiting I've gotta get back to Florida!

To all concerned. This is what I do in my 05 EGC and it works great. Mobil 1 20/50 syn. in motor, Mobil 1 10/40 in primary, clutch works great, AmsOil severe gear 75-110 syn gear lube in trans. The shifting is night and day different. I change gear oil every other season and looks brand new when i change it. Try it you will be surprised as I was.

It was Russian Adm Gorshkov who said "better is the enemy of good enough"....as the Russian military does not fool around with form, but are only interested in function. In the US, the aircraft industry prides itself in a smooth skin, no rivets, no wrinkles, and so on, which actually can add to drag rather than reduce it....depends on speed. But, as will all here, I want the best for my expensive machine, and have tried to educate myself, and try different things, to some degree. Suggest all take a look at the ASTM like tests done by Amsoil at http://www.harley-performance.com/amsoil-mcv.html, as well as a more complete report they did on the subject of all good MC oils. What a lot of folks concentrate on are the japanese clutch specs....BUT, imo, more important might be the compensator wear. These tests include rust inhibition and shear stability. Shear problems happen mostly in the gears in the tranny. But another important factor for me is the friction or wear capabilities, esp for the comp ramps. So this is a dance among several good features necessary in the primary where you have a lot going on. Yes, JASO MA/MA2 is a good thing for the clutch pack. Almost anything will probably lube the chain and bearings. But, the comp needs a heavy oil with good 4-ball wear test. For all of this, I want to use a good synthetic made for the harley primary....but like someone else said, that's just me.

Tried it , didn't care for it. It's like thin motor oil. Would rather run 20-50 synthetic than that
