Ottawa Ride for DAD- Sucessful
I thought I would post the results of the Ottawa Ride For DAD, a neat event that took place on June 4 2011.
The ride originated in Ottawa in 2000 with 80 bikes and it's grown to 29 cities across the country (Canada) and there will be probably over 12,000 participants this year and nationally which has raised over $7 million. The ride supports the needs of Prostate cancer Research.
The ride is BIG, I have never seen so many bikes staged for one ride and really never thought that there were this many bikes in the Ottawa area let along all of them meeting in one area. It was well organized, a Police escorted ride along the Parkways, past the Prime Ministers Home, past Parliament Hill to the west end of the city after which a 100 mile Poker Run continued.
OH Yeh this was a big ride this year, not sure how long it took to pass through the city but there were 2,250 bikes registered (all makes, lots of Harleys)in this year's ride, 11 miles of bikes passed through 20 miles of closed intersections.
The ride brought in around $400,000 in pledges, not to shabby at all.
The weather turned out great the ride and route was good and it was well organized.
We were fed lunch at one of the stops, not great food but good enough to fill the gap and considering the numbers of people participating served quicker than you would think possible.
I am already looking forward to next years ride.
