Default trading evo for a pan

ive been reading alot about vin#'s and just dont know what the deal is with this "57" pan.... it has on the side of the case 58fl3899 on the left side but the title reads that it is a 57 is that possible i thought that 58 means that it is a 1958? but it is on a rigid frame with a non oem front end(springer) any thoughts?

dont go back it will get you in trouble if you take it to a big event ( daytona or alike ) and the cops run the numbers they will impound it and you wont get it back --
1957 still has a hard tail frame
1958 was Duo glide shocks in the rear

Default vin #s

The title might say, ym 57. What does the vin # on the title say ? Does it match the #s on the engine ? It might be a 1957 sold in 1958.

Does the vin on the motor match the vin on the title? That is what is has to do or you will have problems if your are ever stopped. The engine cases should have assembly numbers on the bottom front on either side. The should be in the format 157-1234. The should match each other but not the vin. The 157 means it is a FL made in 57. It is possible to have a 58 model with 157 cases.

This was the only sound advice given here....

Make sure the paperwork and case numbers match and then buy it.
A lot can happen to a bike in 57 years and as long as Motor Vehicle Dept. is cool with it...I am to.

Guess nobody told them that there were no numbers stamped on the neck in those days.

Idiots!
