I don't have any experience working with fiberglass. I am looking to pick up a used fairing for my FLHR and I'm sure I'll have some scratches/ gouges to deal with. Can I do the prep work myself or should I just let the sprayer do the prep work? Thx in advance.....

 

Yes bondo can be used on fiberglass. If the gouges are deep enough that they go right through the fiberglass then a fiberglass repair will be the only way to go before you do anything further. For just scratches a spot putty might be better. It's just a finer grade of bodyfiller for lack of a better explanation. Goes on thinner and is easier to sand than bondo. Once you're done it will have to be primed and sanded before paint. Paint over top of bondo or spot putty looks like crap.

Simple fiberglass putty. Resin plus talc powder. Your local fiberglass dealer can help. There are other powder additives also.

 

Thx for the replies!! I was aware that holes would need fiberglass work but hopefully I will just need to touch up nicks/ scratches, then sanded/primered before paint....
