Question How much H.P./Torque can a Harley EVO 5 speed handle?

Building a motorcycle this winter.. On a budget for transmissions. Are Harley brand trannys better than an Ultima or RevTech??? I've got a 107" S&S, will the EVO Harley 5 speed transmissions hold up to that???
Also whats the best bang for your buck in transmissions?????
Thanks,
Nate

A Harley five speed will handle that motor plus some.As for "bang for your buck" have you ever had a transmission lock up on the highway at 70mph? When considering a transmission as it pertains to your wallet I would take a good hard look at your wallet. Make sure it is very thick and durable, because if you take they cheap route with your transmission, you run the risk of sliding down the highway on your wallet and you want to be damn sure it can hold up against the asphalt. Once the asphalt chews through your wallet the only thing left is your a$$.

In the old days I saw many Harley Trannys behind (2) Sovel or Evo motors taking all the abuse they could muster 1/4 mile at a time. Can't say i remeber seeing many pilots wearing out their wallets.....

Don`t forget the money they saved by using a cheapo transmission would still be in the wallet, offering increased protection from the asphalt...

Had my S&S 107" in my 1990 Glide since 2008 with no problems. When installing it I replaced the primary chain and compensator (the teeth were sharp, so worn) and used a stiffer Barnett spring, to deal with the extra torque. Stay with what you have and ride!

Default Questioning the HD 5

I've" put 59,000 miles on my 5 speed, my 1998 80"er puts out 94# torque an 85 HP with a 3.31:1 final ratio. I ride pretty hard and blew the dogs off of 2nd and 3rd gear to the point where 3rd was gone so decided it was time for a new trans (didn't have a lot of money) and am currently with the Ultima 6. so far I have 1,000 on it and no problems. Shifts real nice, can grab a hard gear and it takes it. I just changed the oil from break in and will post again in another 1,000 mi but this time the it will be powered a little better. It's still in the shop. Hopefully 2 weeks just waiting for the LSR pipes,
