Default Inner Primary Bearing

I have an 09 Streetglide - purchased it new and have been the only person to operate the bike so I know it through and through. After returning from a 4 day trip where my wife & I cruised the backroads I noticed a noise coming from what I thought was the clutch. Got home and cleaned the bike, started it up and decided to take it in to see what was going on - the noise seemed to be louder. Long story short - Inner Primary Bearing went out. My bike only has 7500 miles on it. I know the bike is out of warranty but I was pretty peeved that HD wouldn't stand behind it. Especially after hearing that this has been a problem and they know about it

Anyone else have this issue? Did HD pay for your repairs?

Most importantly has HD come up with any solution to make sure this doesn't happen over and over? I hate to think I have to fork out $500 every 7500 miles!

Burns me up - they know it's a problem on the baggers w 6 speed transmission - apparently didn't resolve it until 2011 - 30K miles I could hang with - but 7500? Customer service was a joke - basically sorry about your luck.

Anyone know how to contact a higher up?

Maybe the bearing failed due to lack of use (rust).

Don`t sweat it, that will only come around every 5 years or so...

Sorry for my lack of sympathy, but I think the sole reason you joined this forum was to come here and rant.

Mark is right. I've installed dozens of attitude ajusters . The problem is the automatic primary chain tensioner. Harley won't do anything about it even under warranty its a flawed system in all 6 speed bikes. By the way mark this is aj from open road cycles in Denver nc.

With my wife battling cancer I've not had a lot of time to ride. Don't want your sympathy - Was hoping to find if others had solutions to the problem

Again thanks Mark! I had read that it was a problem in the 6 speeds. Just hoped that they'd come up with a fix for all the bikes on the road that have this design flaw. I'll look into the adjustors and do something over the winter.
