HOG, the new bikes have a totally different crank shaft that has much more spline than the older models and the offset is different to line up the chain to the basket. For people that don't have access to machinery it would be pretty damn hard to fit.

Who knows if I can make this work with the older comp?
No. The shaft on your 02 is different. I am running a gen 2 comp and added an extra spring. So far so good. You can add an extra spring washer to your 2014. I do 20k a year as well. Sux this is a maintenance item for us.

The older bikes have a 10 tooth spline on the crank. Newer versions have the much stronger serration. (it looks a smaller but it is much stronger and easier to machine accurately) Just a few .001s make a big difference when you tug in opposite directions pulling out decelerating on the rotating masses. It's pretty easy to strip out the spline on the alternator rotor on the 10 spline ones..When this happens, most think the comp nut came loose.

Thanks for the info guys. My bike is a 13 not a 14 but it seems that isn't going to work. Well I have now joined the ranks of those waiting for a better aftermarket alternative. I hate to spend $400 on part that is going to wear out again so soon. It seems a new spring pack with a new compensator makes sense, correct?

If you can find a gen3 comp that doesn't include the rotor it should be about $200.

Louie, what is that part number? Also do you think a new spring pack is necessary?

I'll have to look it up when I get to a computer. Depends on the spring pack and if its weak. Not sure if you can just buy the sprocket and ramp pieces. Last one I bought was $219 and didn't come with a rotor. I have extra rotors at this point.

Damn. Wish this was available now. Monday afternoon I am starting the assembly of my 113 and will be installing the Baker Attitude adjuster at the same time.

I've been trying to keep up with this. I'm new to Harley engine mechanics and their short comings. I will be getting my first Harley early next year and I'll be doing my typical tear down and rebuild process.

When would something like the up and coming baker compensator be installed? New from the show room, after I get some miles on the bike, or when the stock one wears out?
