Got run into a curb yesterday on the shifter side, and rode it for about 30 ft thx to a noble careful auto mobiler.
problem is now she's stuck in 4th or 5th gear and won't downshift at all.
the bottom of the shifter rod took most of the abuse.
when i hit the shifter she moves down but the rear butts up against the case.
seems like the splines are still good as she moves, but will not shift.
Any answers would be great

 

You don't say what year or model you have, which would help us a lot. When you say the rear hits the case please describe what you mean. The rear of what and which case?!

 

My bad. 2008 Nightster.
When i press down on the shifter the linkage in the rear hits the primary right over the cable next to the derby cover. Clutch is working she starts but is stuck in 4th.

I better understand now. Try to remove the gear lever from the splines (loosen the clamp screw on it). You may find that pulling it away from the case a little may solve the problem. If not I suggest you post in the Sportster section, where you should get some more expert help than I can give you. Best of luck!
