Johnson Engineering Twist Gear
I haven't seen any recent inquiries on this setup
http://twistgear.net/
but do recall several inquiries going back a ways. I completed the conversion a couple of months ago and if there are still any inquiring minds; post away.

Resurrected-inquiring mind here!
Hey djl,
How are you liking that TwistGear install? Any problems? Shifting improve? Less vibration in 5th with that helical gear? Do you feel a 6 speed would have been a better direction?
Looks like a solid product but I can't find much for write ups from people that have been running them.
Thanks!

No problems so far after about 5K miles. Shifting may have improved a bit but I had not shifting issues before. I believe the Shockproof improves shifting as much as anything. I have never had issues finding neutral or any other shifting issues. Vibration? Never had any vibration in 5th gear before and certainly none now. I have two bikes, the other is a 2005 FXSTD and I will be upgrading the 95" motor in that one to 98" with better heads, longer cams and better exhaust this winter. I will very likely install the TG in that bike as well. There are occasions when I think about grabbing a sixth gear but the old five speed is just right for riding in the Texas hill country. What I am considering with the next install is going up a tooth on the trans pulley. With a motor making 110 or so TQ, that would give up a bit of the TQ multiplier gain in the first four gears but would drop cruise rpms about 150 or thereabouts. IMHO, much better combination than a six speed.
BTW, you've got mail.
