Default Baker Bronze Shifting Forks

Hey Mark,
I have your bronze shifting forks in my 2000 Road King. I noticed you don't have them in your catalog any longer. Are there any problems with them? Should I replace them with the steel ones? I had read something about certain oils would react with the bronze. Please share any information. Thank you.

This is a slippery slope, and it is all about the GL oil rating. GL-1 rated oils will not damage bright metals but they will also not protect your gears as well as a GL-5. Gl-5 rated oils are optimum but they will also attack the bright metals such as bronze. Catch 22 uh. Here is the solution Spectro makes a specific 6 speed full synthetic transmission fluid that is GL-5 rated and also has buffers to protect the bright metals. Best of both worlds.

Have you actually seen the damage?

I bet a lot of us here are using GL-5 fluids, never seen any complaints/issues.

Stock transmissions do not have bright metals in them, so there should not be many complaints. I don't have any pictures handy to share of damaged bright metals but I'll see what I can dig up. GL-5 is the best thing to run in your transmissions period. We have since went to steel forks and they are working out great. Have you been inside your transmission to see what the forks look like? Let me know.
