Default What type of oil for trans??????? 5 speed

my bike currently has syn 3 in trans but it just doesnt seem to shift that smooth and I've heard of guys putting heavier fluid in them but what do you guys have personal experience and good luck with??? when downshifting thru the gears seems to have a louder than what i feel is a normal clunk...................tim

I just recently changed from syn3 to Royal Purple 75/90. It seems to have smoothed out the shifting on my bike. You're going to get a ton of varying opinions on this subject.

Default Gear Oil

I use Spectro 75w140 but any 75w140 will work.

+1 on the Purple stuff and I run Moble One synthetic ATF in the primary for very positive, smooth shifting.

+1 on the RP. Royal Purple is the way to go. I have been a fan since racing stock cars several years ago. 75w90 is what I run in my Super Glide transmission..

Syn3 will certainly provide all the protection a Harley transmission needs, but when it comes to NVH there are better choices. A good GL-5 75w140 gear oil is the best. That's what I'm running in my tranny, with B&M Trick Shift in the primary.

Default do both

Replace the primary fluid with a syntheteic "dexron" type of atf AND a good sythetic gear oil.I like amsoil sg 75-110 and their universal synthetic atf. Change once a year.
