99 FLHT Starter problem
Hi all,
This is my first ever post to a forum so I hope I don't do anything stupid. I have a 99 FLHT that when I press the starter button the starter just spins. I replaced the starter but it does the same thing. I am in Germany stationed just outside Stuttgart and the Germans just love to charge me to research problems and buy new parts like a new starter. Can any one tell me what else could be wrong and I will order the parts from the states.
I can't afford much more German help.

If the starter spins but the engine does not crank, it is usually an indication that the starter clutch has failed.
I suspect the new starter also has a bad clutch. The starter clutch can be replaced without buying a new starter.
Make sure the starter jackshaft/pinion gear parts are installed correctly and are not damaged.
Welcome, and thank you for your service.

Dan89FLSTC,
Thanks brother for the advice. The guy that worked on the bike said it was the sprocket that the starter plugged into (Laymans terms). Is that what you are trying to tell me? Is the "Starter Clutch" and "Jackshaft" part of the starter itself? Please advise, as you can tell I am not that mechanical.

Thanks for the note AJAYRK
AJAYRK,
Thanks for the post unfortunately I cannot access either the .jpg or .txt that you posted. I guess I don't have the privileges yet. I will try to figure out how to private email you and send you my email address and maybe you could email me the post.
