What's a 'chiltons'?! Tell us what year and model bike you are working on.

It would help to know what year/model you are working on. If a TC, there are two bolts on the outside at the front; two on the outside that hold the starter and five on the inside.

You didn't mention the removal of the compensator but since you have removed the clutch, I assume the compensator has been removed as well. You will also have to remove the starter pinion gear.

Toss the Chilton's manual; I don't know why people still buy those. Get the H-D manual for your model.

EDIT: Never mind, it's not a TC.

For future reference the factory service manual is best. The others add bits here and there, but are not a good starting point! There are two bolts as you say, removed from the right side, plus four inner bolts within the inner casing. The book also says remove starter and solenoid. If it won't move, they may just need a little friendly persuasion - with a rubber mallet?!

I'm still not able to get the inner primary off. All the bolts inside the inner primary are removed. Plus the left 2 bolt out outside of the primary are removed. I can carefully pry the primary on the left side out a tiny bit. But the right side won't budge. On the top of where the starter is, just below the oil tank. There is a hole. Is there a bolt in there that needs to be removed? Any help would be appreciated.

Follow your ground strap under the tranny to the back side of the primary and look for the bolt at the end of it.

Well I finally had some time to work on the bike. I'm still trying to get the inner primary off. I found 1 bolt on the back side. How many bolts are there on the back side? On the right side front the bearing and seal come out with the innery primary. Correct?
1986 FXSTC Thanks

Phew! Well done. Can you post a photo showing the bolt holes, for future reference?
