Question You guys tell me

Hi Guys

Tell what you guys think about me trying this idea ?

I own a 1985FLHTC Harley with a 5 SPEED TRANNY.

Questions:

1. Would it be a good idea if I can replace me 5pd. tranny with a 6 SPEED TRANSMISSION ?

2. If you think its possible and a good idea; What kind of year tranny would be good ?

Thanks Guys

Hi Schooner,

IMHO our Evo 5-speed trannie is fine. If you really want a six speed, that will be a challenge! From what I can make out, your bike is a transitional model, shortly after the last shovels, but before the mainstream Evos came along. I don't know of a solution available to you: I can't see a Baker trans or conversion, nor is there a Screamin Eagle conversion. I could do either of them on my 1990 Glide.

I suggest you call in the Evo section and ask in there, where you will find some of our best Evo experts!

You know, I had a 4 spd in a shovel and a 5 spd in an Evo, now I have a 6 spd. The only thing I like about the 6 speed is the overdrive. I don't enjoy shifting more and the 6 speed is noisier than the 5 spd or the 4 spd. Harleys have torque and unless you are talking about adding an overdrive I would stay with stock. I blew the side out of a 5 spd last year. transmissions are expensive. I found a low mile used stock replacement for $400 shipped to my door. Don't think you will get that with the 6 spd upgrade you are proposing. Keep It Simple and stay stock. That tranny worked well for years and the replacement parts are readily available My $0.02

Default After thinking about this . . .

Hi grbrown

You know after thinking about this transformation I think I stick to my new re-model '85 Harley.
Take a look & tell me what you think.
