TC 5 Speed Shifting Between Gears
Well, it must be my month for transmissions. I have mine on my Evo apart from a blown fifth gear: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/prima...l#post12173251. Now I picked up my girlfriend's 2002 Heritage to do some general maintenance, oil changes and the like.
Second time I rode it all the sudden every shift was hitting "neutral". Downshifting has a much better chance of finding the gear but still misses a lot. If I shift without the clutch, then it pops right into gear. Shifting from first to neutral, there is no feel at all as the shifter passes neutral up into second. I'm thinking that the detent button isn't working anymore. I'll pull the top off the tranny tomorrow to find out what is up in there. I'm hoping that I can get the top off without pulling the oil tank. There's a lot more room above the trans than with my Evo. Never pulled apart a TC tranny before but it's probably pretty much the same as the Evo.

Yup. Got it apart today. The spring 33374-00 on the detent shaft broke. What a pain to get the oil tank out of the TC Heritage. The oil tank on my evo Heritage practically falls out. Much easier than the TC. $5 part and two hours to tear the bike apart and another two hours to put it together once I can find the spring. Stealer down here doesn't stock them anymore. (Too old. We only have springs for the six speeds.)
