Default Backlash???

I am getting some backlash in the drive train when I hit some stiffer bumps almost like the throttle is too touchy. The bike is an 07 deluxe with 15,000 miles on it and it is set up as a bagger. I thought the extra weight of the fairing and bags was contributing, which may be but I still get it with them off. Primary chain loose? Compensator? I have seen both mentioned in numerous threads. How do I check them?

Check the tension, or lack thereof, on your primary chain.

More than likely the spring washers in the comp are weak. Very few auto primary chain adjusters keep the chain on the loose side.

tighten your throttle tension screw..
just enough so you can open and close the throttle with not much effort.

believe it or not , when you hit bumps your hand bounces a little .
causing erratic throttle ...hence the "drivetrain "******"
