while replacing inner primary seals and bearing on my 04 flhtcui I noticed play in the trans input shaft. is this normal or should I pull gear set out and check shaft and bearings for wear? Thanks for input.

 

Shouldn't be any up/down play. Prolly trap door and inner main drive bearings getting old. Doubt you would have any wear but rather time to re bearing it.

 

What do you mean by play?
In? out? up down?...backlash?

Five speed transmissions will usually get a zillion miles on the bearings if ridden sanely.

 

Yep I'm with these guys define "play". up, down, in, out..........
