Natchez Trace
#32
I've ridden it from end to end a couple of times and just got back riding the Trace with three others from Tupelo, Mississippi to Nashville. Had a great time and we ventured off the Trace to tour Shiloh National Military Park, David Crockett State Park, and ventured over to Franklin, Tennessee before we finished with chicken and bisquits at Loveless Cafe.
We cruised along between 55 and 60 MPH and didn't get so much as a nod from the several park rangers we met along the way.

If your looking to go to Vicksburg you will have to get off the trace. Best bet is in Jackson or Clinton and taking I20 West for about 30 miles to Vicksburg

like a couple of other posters here i just came back from doing a small part of the trace a few weeks ago.
I stopped at the visitors station near Tupelo,MS and spoke to the solo ranger at the station. I was the only one at the visitor station and i stayed there about 30 minutes.
We chatted about the Trace and how its changing. She was advising me that the "thing" on the rangers radar now would be commercial vehicles. They get them all the time cutting thru on the Trace. $250 fine on that one.
My only complaint (and its a small complaint) would be quite a few locals and some solo travelers use the trace to cut thru/down from wherever they are coming from...i noticed quite a few cars going the opposite direction, usually 3 or 4 cars bunched up behind the few RV's out and about, and they looked impatient. These folks cant be tourist!
Jackson is a noticeable departure from the "spirit" of the Trace. Urban sprawl and all that....really is the only place where you will hit major traffic and now its almost all day long and not during rush hour. Also did Vicksburg...very nice experience.
Still, its pretty nice to travel. And the "bad" traffic in Jackson is nothing compared to other places. And i only saw 2 deer! Thats amazing...
Enjoy...great weather!
