Default Gatlinburg October 1-4

Anyone planning on being or heading down in/to Gatlinburg / Pigeon Forge around this time? Planning on riding down from the NW Side of Chicago on the 1st. Pretty much read everything I could find in roads down there. Been down via cage NUMEROUS times but this is going to be the first bike trip. Any tips as always will be appreciated. Thanks!

Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg could be crowded with traffic so be conscious of that. Obviously you need to go ride the Tail of the Dragon. Would also suggest Cherohala Skyway (much more leisurely ride and great views). While down that way stop and see the Fontana Dam if you are into structures. If you want to gamble go over the mountains to Harrah's Cherokee. And I hear (but never been) the Wheels Through Time museum in Maggie Valley should be done.

We just got back from that area. Early October should be a beautiful time to ride there.

If you like stopping by the HD shops on your rides. The shop in Marysville has a little "bar" in the back that few know about. Really good food too

In October you better make sure you carry some warm weather gear.

Thanks for the tip about the "bar" and I'm trying to make it to the Fontana Dam...any idea how far (hours) from Gatlinburg Harrah's is? Might try that as well. And last year when we were down it was low 50s/40s at night and I was freezing. I plan on dressing quite warm, thanks. I am hoping the roads aren't too leaf covered yet.

Think about what I am telling you : it is 35 miles and will take you about 1.5 hrs during the day with good weather and light traffic. On Friday night it will take you 2-3 hrs. If you plan on doing the casino you may want to stay in Maggie Valley, NC and do the rides from there. You best have reservations in October anywhere in the area.

I don't think the casino will happen. I already reserved a cabin at Adventure Bound Campground on 321 because I'm familiar with that area and this is the longest trip I've been on the bike. I'm still wishy washy if I have the stamina to make it. Being optimistic though. Maggie Valley just seems like I'd be pushing myself that extra little bit and I'm not sure if that'd be a good idea or not. Maybe I'll have to bring the GTO back next year to make it there. Thanks for the heads up on real travel time!

I like to ride the Blue Ridge Parkway from Cherokee back toward Waynesboro. I often see elk along that stretch of road.

Seems like that'd be a nice ride too! So much to do so little time!

Yep, run the BRP from Cherokee north about 25 miles to Hwy 215 exit End of the ramp take 215 North to the south end of Waynesboro,NC At the light at Hwy 276, T/L into town. At light Business 23, T/L and go 2 blocks to Bogaart's Restaurant on the left, Great food and a great ride. Bogaart's can handle large groups and they have a full bar if you want to have ONE.
