You can buy alcohol just down from the crossroads of 129 and 28 at the Topocco Lodge (on 129).

Are you riding or trailering the bikes here? Be warned I-40 will suck BAD all the way from Memphis to Alcoa! Look at taking Hwy 70 just outside of Memphis all the way to Nashville and then picking it up again on the east side of Nashville. The segment of hwy 70 from Nashville to the Mountains is an awesome ride in itself and you will avoid 1,000s upon 1,000 of semi trucks. Slower but much more relaxed! Memphis to Maryville on 1-40 would take you about 7 hours hard riding/driving. 70 will add about an hour to that.

We will be riding down The boss and I take one good trip each year and we thought that going south east would be nice. The Rocky's are good but we have hit them for the last three years.

Hey Lumpy I am in Watertown. Can I stow away in your saddle bag for the trip? Ha ha. I am eagerly watching these recommendations. The Dragon is a bucket list trip for me and a buddy. I would love to hear a follow-up after your trip too.

If planning the Dragon its best on week days. Like mentioned the weekends on it can suck due to traffic. Weekdays it's like a ghost town

there are much better roads than Deals Gap in My honest opinion...Plus with at the a$$hats riding Super motard and crotch rockets that think they own it...I am pretty done with it...I have worn a couple sets of pegs already...
