Maine is okay, if you get over that way, but the roads are a lot rougher than VT or NH and the traffic on the coast is terrible.
Just don't do it in the pitch black at 7:30 - 8 o'clock at night like I did. LOL!

I agree with many others here, from Albany take 7 up to 9 in Bennington then across VT to Wilmington and take 100 N. 100 is pretty damn good all the way, in Stowe/Waterbury area take 108 over Smugglers Notch over to 15 toward Johnson and then 100C back to 100N. Right near the top of 100 take 14S/E to 58E to 5A over to Willoughby Gap and 5A will join with 5. From there, get on Rt 2 and ride all the way over to Pinkham Notch in NH and into North Conway. Out of there, take West Side Drive out to Crawford Notch (302) and follow it to 117 over Sugar Hill and into Franconia. Pick up 18 all the way to Cannon Mt base and head onto 93S. Take the Woodstock exit and have some food and beer at Woodstock Inn. From here, take 112, the Kancamangus back toward Conway. This is a few hundred mile ride so not sure how much you want to fit into a day etc. and you will still need to get back down to Albany from here. There are several ways to do that ( you could skip the Kanc and take 112 to 116 out of Woodstock out to route 10 to 12A to 12 in NH south along the CT river or cross into VT and take 5 South. In either case, you will come out on Rt 9 and head back west.
There are so many good routes that this is just one decent sample. I would consider day one stop to be Stowe/Waterbury area (~185 miles), Day two stop in North Conway area (~ 175 miles) and then day three back to Albany (~275) or Bennington Vt (250ish) area as a general guideline. Definitely not for night riding though. Too many critters and the views suck.

I appreciate all the suggestions and now I know what I will map out. Just returned last night from a 3K mile, 7 day trip to CMA headquarters in western Arkansas. Lots of great roads to ride in Arkansas. I can tell you they don't spend any money or rest areas in that state especially on I 40 as I don't think we saw one. Need a couple of days to rest up as I plan the New England trip.
