A general route might be a good idea. Unless you're going to zigzag north to south as you go. Starting point and states that you're going to pass through. Stuff like that.

Mt. Washington in the White Mountains, New Hampshire. The trip to the top is an experience in itself. The view at the top is simply amazing. On a clear day you can see the Atlantic Ocean.

If you come through New York at all I would highly suggest the Bear Mountain Parkway. Narrow road, sharp turns but the view is worth it. Pull off area that overlooks the Hudson from the side of the mountain.

Gotta do route 6 from east to west, all the way through PA. Stop at the Grand Canyon of PA, only a few miles from 6. From there you can work your way north & east, into MA or VT from up near Albany. I'm not as crazy about 6, east of the Grand Canyon, but it's a great ride there from OH. Alot of guys here, like 6 all the way east. It goes into NY & then CT, so you COULD go north & east from there. Unless you're from Los Angeles & know what you're getting into, I'd avoid NYC on a bike, at all costs! Just my opinion.

Routes 100 and 14 going north and south thru Vermont is a good ride. And of course Mt Washington in NH.

I left Portland, OR August 9, 2010 and rode to Portland, Maine. Spent 10 days getting there and camped most of the time. A couple of wet days of riding made motels look very good. No matter what the weather looks like when you leave home take clothing for every type of weather. It was either to wet, to cold, or to hot but not a day was bad because I was able to dress up or down for it. I did ride through NYC on a friday afternoon during rush hour and the only choice is to grin and bear it. There were 4 days of rain on the trip and some cold mornings. Round trip was 7,000 miles and 3 weeks. Will I do it again? I'm just waiting for spring.

I have a general route in mind. It leaves a lot of flexibility to see whatever. Thanks!

Yeah. I'm all over the gear for all weather. I rode through Canada to Jasper in May. We saw it all. We are also taking three weeks and I'm really lookin forward to it. Thanks for the feedback!
