Wouldn't mine going to see like the Harley Museum or some other interesting site in a city but no desire to ride through them all for no reason...

Thanks again

If you end up coming thru on 94/80 (thru Indiana into Illinois) under Chi Town try to do it on a weekend morning, the earlier the better.
Weekday morning, well good luck.
I would wait till I was well past Chicago before I looked for any 2 lane roads going west.

Yep you DO NOT want to get caught up in Chicago. Have you considered one of the ferrys across Lake Michigan? I've done it a couple of times on the Badger out of Muskegon. The Lake Express is much faster but I haven't tried that one yet.

I-80 south of Chicago isn't too bad if you hit it early afternoon about 2-2:30. If you're running I-90 in Ohio you could hit 271 south by Cleveland drop down to Columbus and hit 70 west over to Indy then hit 74 west that will run you up to I-80 just before the IL/IA line. I'm in Ohio and that route adds just under 2hrs for me but it avoids Chicago completely and all the tolls on my journey.
