I have read that a new interstate highway 11 will replace the 191 route. We will ride it while we can. 1,600 hundred miles from Douglass Az. to Malta, Mt. Joins east to West highway 2 in Malta Montana.

Leon,
Every place has it's own beauty. I enjoy riding almost anywhere from prairie, farm ground to Mountains. Mountains are the favorite and I try to stay away from urban areas.
The reason I asked why 191 was to see if you were dedicated to riding 1 Rd all the way from border to border, had special sites to see along the way or are you flexible and would veer off that path or maybe leave it all together. Do you have time to stop and explore?
Detours I would make are:
Hubble Trading Post
First Mesa Hopi Res.
Canyon de Chelly near Chinle
Cortes Colorado to see Mesa Verde Nat. Park then on to Durango and the Million Dollar Highway to Grand Junction. GJ to Vernal and stop and have a beer with me and I can show you the sites if you have time. On to Jackson - Yellowstone then I would head to Helena MT and on to Columbia Falls and ride Glacier and Waterton Parks. If you have time I'd then recommend going north to the Canadian Rockies.

You have an ambitious ride and I'm sure where ever you end up it will be a great trip with your brother and nephew.

Bill

Don't forget Canyonlands and Arches Natl Park.

Another detour would be US163 in northern AZ and ride through Monument Valley. Like stepping into a John Ford western or Forrest Gump.

You'll need to look behind you on the north side to see this view.

Enjoy the trip!

Leon I'm riding from Mexico to Canada this summer via route 93 ( Nogales , Mex. to Canadian border ). Why did you decide on 191? Did you consider 93 ? I want to take the "best" route so I am open to suggestions .
