I agree, I grab Cemetery Rd. out of Minooka Il. ride the back way to Rte 71 to Starved Rock S.P.
I do the same. There are back roads to take on both the north and south sides of the river that are great. A few good hole in the wall stops for food and drink as well.
If you are looking for a longer ride, there are decent roads all the way down the IL River from the Joliet area to the Peoria area. That is a nice day's ride, down and back.

Yeah Reacher, the ride to Peoria is one of the better ones in Il., Ridge Rd. to Hansel rd, along the I&M canal to rte 71 to rte 26 (east side of river) to East Peoria, usually eat at the Burger Barge on the frontage rd. near the Paradise Casino. Another good one is rte 2 from Dixon to Bryon.
Southeastern Ohio has some nie twisties with elevation changes. Western North Carolina around Maggie Valley or Cherokee. Tennesee in the foothills. Venture out, see the country side and enjoy.

Burger Barge is definitely the place to go for lunch! Did a ride down there several weeks ago.
