After installation clean before starting the bike. Oils and residues from your hands will burn into the chrome and cause discoloring. Here is a great image of some finger prints burned into the chrome finish.



These pictures illustrate an extreme situation but even clean hands will leave some natural oils and can cause minor discoloring.

It’s also important to clean products with black powder coating. The color will not change like chrome but the oils and residues from your hands will compromise the coating and can cause it to fail.

 

The V & H pipes I have are just like this under the heat shield.

 

Get you some BlueMagic metal polish it works good it may even get that off, it got burnt oil off my head pipes
