Default backfire, no exhast leak

Ok 77flh, had a exhaust leak, got that fixed. She is still backfiring through both exhaust and carb (mainly exhaust). I adjusted carb, same issues. There is no shops around here to get parts what points and condenser can I use from the auto parts store? Also any other ideas?

check the springs on your advance assembly. Also condition of the weights and pivot points. They wear out and need to be replaced when the holes get ovaled out.

While I am in there I may as well chage the points and condenser, no bike shops here but auto parts. Anyone know what fits?

You can get points and condenser for a 1971 Chevrolet C10 pickup 250 CI 6 cylinder (probably the same as corvair)

The easiest way to time the bike is to static time it with the points cam held in full advance.
First you set the points to .018. Remove the timing plug on the left side of the motor and as the narrow lobe of the points cam approaches the rubbing block of the points the front cylinder advance mark should be approaching the timing hole. Once you get the advance mark in the hole, (it may take your several tries and it helps if you have someone working the kicker or bumping the rear tire as you watch), place a test light on the points lead and to ground. Hold the points cam in full advance and slowly rotate the points backing plate until it just sets off the light. Tighten everything up and you are done.
This is what it looks like when timed. I had the light in another location for the actual timing and put it there just for illustration. To hold the cam I modified an old pair of pliers. You narrow the jaws and grind out the center to go around the hold down bolt.

Default static timing

Is there a simple way to static time a 1974 flh? I have an ultima ignition. I have a 65 ironhead with a Mallory electronic ignition and what I have done the past with it, is put the timing mark center in the hole, pull and ground the plugs and slowly turn it until the plug fires. Will that work on a shovel by turning the plate with the ignition modual on it until it fires the plugs the same way?
