Default Swing arm bearing assembly

I have pulled the swing arm off to replace the bearings as there was a good 1/4 inch of lateral movement in the swing arm. I went to a local dealership and bought the bearings, races and seals. What I didn't realize is that there is something called a bearing pivot spacer on the outer side of each bearing. When I got this bike and tore it down, I don't ever recall seeing it and when I assembled it everything was good and tight with the powder coat paint on it so I never noticed the movement.
So what are these spacers, how thick are they, can I make something else work given the holidays are here and no one will be open till after the new year? The manual shows a very limited drawing of it. Does anyone have a pic and or specs on it? Help.

Randy

1974 FLH.

1974 FLH there is about a quarter inch depth between the outer swingarm and the top of the bearing seal so obviously something has to take up that space

1958 on i dont remember if they changed them after 1977 but that is your part number - 47517-58 is the OEM number 2 they are the same left and right sides

you do need the OEM books that being loose you could have gotten hurt on it as the rear wheel is walking around

3/8 of an inch each is what mic's out too. front axel spacers would work fine as they are 3/4 inch I.d., both 3/8 thick. Oh well I can find a machine shop I hope tomorrow to make me some.

thanks

They are basically a wheel spacer..in fact the seals are the same as wheel seals...I can measure one if ya like? Tho as long as the "fit" I would say they are good to go...just long enough to be able to preload the bearings without binding/bending/breaking the "ears" on the frame.

edit; set the preload carefully...watch for binding, or any "catch" in the movement...

a small chance he read the book before installing the swingarm.

and if so he already bent the frame up rights getting the preload set to spec - he didnot have ether one in

the next post about it does not fit in with the spacers will be what now

if by me being a dick - you then take the time to read the issue at hand than we both win

reading a novis mistake from a guy who seems not to be one - gets boring

good on you your sporty runs -- lived on an iron head as a kid
