Default 77/78/79 Low Rider MSRP ?

My riding buddies and I just left the pub and I'd like ya'lls help in settling a little argument. While doing some reminiscing one the boys says he remembers going into the dealer in 77 and trying on the 77 Low Rider. He proceeds to mention that MSRP was $3200-$3400. I said I doubt it .......... I shopped and bought a new black 79 OTD for $5200. He swears that's was the price in 77 for the Low Rider and I can't believe the price went up $2K in 2 years. If I'm not mistaken the MSRP on a 79 was $5495.

Help a brother out ....................

There were 2 models of the Low Rider in 79. A 74" and an 80". The 74 went for 4900 and the 80 for 5500. Your buddy may be right about the price of 77's I was looking about that time and thought that 3200 was high because just a couple of years earlier a FLH was only 3200.

My 1981 FXEF had a list price of $5800. Harley had a $800 rebate and the dealer matched it. They then came down another $75 as 4 of us bought bikes the same day for a total of $4400 out the door. A friend paid $5100 for his Low rider out the door so list must have been around $6500

Bought my 77 Lowrider for $5500 Canadian in Fall of 1977. Not sure what exchange rate was back then. However you could also buy a new TransAm with honeycomb mags etc for the about the same money. A friend bought one.

Default Ridin yr round

In '97 I bought a '79 FXS 80 ci Lowrider. It was both kick and electric start. I shopped around and went to an auction at the old Daytona HD (which has moved and is now an Indian dealership) so I think that what I paid was fair at the time, I think...but I got it from an private owner here in Orlando for $8,000. What's amazing is that I guess at that time it wasn't unusual for some used bikes to be selling for more than they were brand new. But I recently bought an '08 FB with only 20k miles for $7500 and my brother bought an '07 FB with only 6300 miles for $8,000. Man how times have changed. Can anyone tell me if the 80 ci '79 Lowrider I got in '97 for 8 grand was fairly priced at that time because my memory isn't that sharp these days but like I said I shopped around and am pretty sure it was the going price for that bike at that time. Man I wish I still had it I will forever regret selling that motorcycle.

All interesting stuff but the thread is 8 years old. Doubt if any of the posters are still watching.

Good reading still. I remember my friend bought a brand new 1977 Low Rider for less than $3,500.00. I forget what I gave for my first Harley, a 1967 XLCH at that same time; it couldn't have been much as I was pretty broke back then! I would venture a guess @ $1,200.00.

I do remember what I gave for my 1976 FXE back in 1983, $2,450.00. It was on a used car lot in Alabama for $3995. I had just re-enlisted in the Army and had my bonus money, $2,200.00, which was 6 months pay for 6 years, a months pay for each additional year, a one time shot. I asked if I could test ride the bike and the salesman said sure but it doesn't run very good. It ran just fine, but I didn't let on. I offered $2,200.00. The man said $2,200.00 will buy a lot on this lot, but it won't buy that. I stopped in about every day for 2 or 3 weeks with my offer. The last time I stopped I told the man that it didn't look like anyone was beating down the door to buy the bike. He said give me $2,450.00. I did and it was a great bike! I put way more miles on that AMF FXE SuperGlide than all of my other Harleys since, combined! I often say if I hadn't hot rodded the hell out of it that I would still have it!

By the later Shovelhead years, they sold well under MSRP
un fact my '82 FXRS, was onthe showroom floor for close to 2 years unsold. Too "Japanese" looking!!!
If I recall correctly, I gave well under 5k..
decidedly Not yer typical FX however!!
which I was Not looking for.
