Default 77' clutch spring measurement

Anyone have the specs on how to measure the clutch spring spacing on a 77 FLH? The book I have wasn't specific on where to measure or how much space. I set it to 7/8" by measuring off the clutch plate retainer, but the clutch handle still seems pretty easy to pull in, and the friction zone is with the handle almost all the way out. Just wondering if someone had a better idea on the measurement

The exact measurement is Not as critical as that the plate disengage evenly, and the Clutch Arm [on the kicker cover] is at the appropriate angle before disengagement.
Then the Cable can be used to "fine tune" as long as the Thro-out is not in constant engagement.
The service manual has the basics....

Also, If using a Primary belt ...I find that a Ramm Jet Retainer will save alot of foolin with the Clutch...Never used one on a Chain Drive, but I suspect it certainly can't hurt!!!!
