I'm not an Andrews fan , had issues with their cams new and the usable power range on them suck. Most don't start coming in till 2500 to 2800 RPM.

Just to be clear - I pressed the original Harley gear onto the camshaft - the camshaft is a new Andrews shaft - I have re-pressed it 6 times and it still has a .001 wobble to the gear - the other HD shovel cams I have in the box run true - I believe the Andrews camshaft is crap - but I'll never get my money back for the cam - I just want to ride the bike

I just recently had an Andrews undersize gear pressed onto my "A" grind cam. They did it for me a the local HD shop. No heat, just press. There are alignment marks on the shaft that get aligned with the notch in the cam gear. I guess the press fit is tight enough that slippage isn't a problem, but it seems weird that there isn't anything to keep it aligned. The notch in the cam gear looks like it would align with a key, but there is none.

The gear is .005 tight fit - I scribe the gear to line up with the timing knotch - rpessing is not the problem - it is the cam shaft that is .002 run-out - I checked a coupke HD shafts and they are under .001 run-out - I'm real disappointed in the Andrews cam - you can actually see where the grind is not symmetric at the edges of the journal - the shaft is clearly defective but their warranty is 90 days - Gary Wallace at Andrews is going to look at the cam for me and decide if they will replace it

got the original cam gear in there - still getting a loud whine - almost whistles at about 2000rpm - wonder if there is a way to tell if someone put the wrong cam gear in this 1977 shovel????? if there a way to tell which pinion I have??? early 77 or L77-84????
