Default Getting a Key made...

Anybody have to get a key made on an older Shovel??

The dealer is telling me that I have a non-complete VIN...
I just gave him what was on the title...
I don't know if it makes a difference that it is a Police Edition...

VIN is 7H#####JO only 9 Characters...

thanks..

Tim

I get that all the time, "You need more #'s for a complete VIN." I just laugh and go on my way... I forget what year HD went to "standard VIN" sequencing...
ANYWAY,,, if youever find a source for older , mine's a `79, HD key blanks please let me know. I've been looking for onesince I got my bike...

The problem with that is I do not have a key at all, so a blank would do me no good...

I called HD HQ and they are looking into it and I am supposed to hear back from one of the guys that specialize in older HD's...

Normally they can just put in the VIN pull a key code and be able to make the key for you at the Mfg.
I'll let you know if I hear something about it, thanks..

Well THAT sux. If it's the original key switch, you should be able to take a blank for the qpproprate year to a good locksmith and he can then make you a key. "KEY" words there are GOODlocksmith. I guess I'm lucky there, one of my ex-co-workers is one of the best. can make akey for anything....

Should be by the year. Found you another solution even better :-)

Save you some time and trouble... BTW, what year is your shovel? Is your switch down by the oil tank like my `79?

Oh,,, like this:

Funny that the dealer wouldn't have a blank for that BUT you know how they are.... If it's the original switch I thought those keys were almost universal up into the 90's.... You just can't find good help these days
