Yesterday at work I notice that my primary drain plug was leaking, just a drip or two, I had changed primary oil a couple of weeks ago, so when I got home I tried to tighten the plug, it screwed all the way in and fell into the primary, of course I lost all the oil, had to remove the primary cover to retrieve the plug, coated the plug with high temp silicone gasket maker, screwed it in until the plug was flush, let it dry, then replaced the oil. I see this as a temporary fix, but I needed to ride to work the rest of the week and then work on it some more this weekend.
Do any of you have any idea on what to do to fix the drain plug situation, it did not leak any today, riding 30 miles to work.
It's a tapered plug. If it went all the way through, then either the plug is too small or the hole is too big.
It looks like a standard 1/8" stainless pipe plug to me. The bike is 20 years old and I have owned it for only three of those years, I guess someone really tried tightening it. I will come up with something.

I use teflon paste on the threads of the plug.
Seals it up great and the plug is easy to get out when it comes time to change the fluid.
I also use teflon paste on my tranny drain and fork drains.
Works like a charm.
Mine was leaking ever so lightly about 10 years ago, I used teflon tape and it has been good ever since.
I had to give up on the tape because I usually didn't wrap it the right direction and every time I used it I couldn't help but drop it and watch it roll across the garage floor!!!!
Yeah I know I gotta be smarter than a roll of tape but somehow it always outsmarts me an makes a mad dash for freedom!!!!!
Had the same problem ... drilled it out and tapped it to 7/16 UNF ... I use a Stainless socket head cap screw that I undercut the bottom of the head a little to hold an o-ring ... I still use Teflon tape on the threads and have not had any problems ... I did remove the outer primary cover to do the work

Way different style drain than my bike, if I had that style, I would do the same thing basically... much better.
I use Hylomar on the pipe plugs. It's a bit sticky, so the plugs won't fall out, but it keeps them sealed so they don't leak. I only have to tighten them a bit past "snug".
