Default Buying a Rental Bike??? Bad Idea

First time poster on the forum - long time reader. Thanks to all. I ride a Road King, Mrs. rides a Sportster, and is ready to take the plunge on a Fat Boy to take longer trips together. Thinking about buying a bike that was part of the local dealerships' rental fleet (4k miles) - decent deal...

Even if the money is right, worth it to have had a dozen or more other riders on your bike?

Thoughts?

THANKS....

Yeah, probably do... just figured (maybe hoped) I'd have a few "I did and it worked great for me" pep talks...

Would you loan your bike out to a dozen strangers for 4000 miles?

Reason it's cheaper. Might be a good one, might have been ridden hard by people who don't know how to ride and wanted to see how hard they could push a bike.

As Jeremy Clarkson said, the fasted car in the world is a rental.

But... it would have been serviced at the dealer. Hit or miss.

My first FLHTC was a dealer rental. Never had an issue. The dealer provided me the maintenance records for the life of the rental. I'd do it again if I had to.

It all depends, obviously, on what riders rented the bike.

Relatively inexperienced riders would tend to baby it, because they're afraid of dropping it.

Highly experienced riders would tend to thrash it, I assume.

Have it checked out by a good tech.

I know what you would like to hear but after reading the other replies and not wanting to muddy up the water for ya, I had this thought. What would be the difference between buying a used bike from a rental fleet or buying one from a 2nd party. To me, it could be good or bad either way. For me personally, trust your gut and if it feels right to you, than go for it, if not, than don't. Good luck

My Dyna Switchback was also a rental...never have had problem since I bought it. Matter of fact, all the Switchback owners who had that nasty vibration problem? I've never had it. Maybe the dealer fixed that problem up while it was rental, and I don't have any vibration problem on the highway. Its been a great bike...and the price was good!
