Default Clip on bars on the Rock!

Well my mind is made up !!!! Gonna slap some RSD clip on bars on my rocker. I've never seen a bike with that set up in person so I'm posting to see if any of you have a ride with clip ons or have seen them in person.

I know the ridding position is different from bike to bike to bike but I just want to get an overall sense of what I'm gonna be getting into with this set up. Any cons?

I can already tell that when the front end is turned all the way to either side it's gonna be a reeeaaaal stretch lol.

If you got pics put them up as well.

I'm still gonna keep my BR apes and just get a new wiring harness for the clip on bars just so I can swith back and forth depending on my mood lolol.

My back started to hurt as I was reading your post. That's going to be one hell of a stretch. Handling will probably suffer a lot with the raked front end and such a narrow bar setup.

I'm gonna sit on the bike tomorrow and try to really get a feel for what the ridding position will be. Here is what I plan on getting.

Im not sure how these bars would affect the handling. Can you elaborate ?

Notice the crotch rocket riders on long trips. They are relieving their backs by leaning one arm on the tank. They have rearward foot positions where you have forwards. It won't be a long distance bike.

I agree with you guys on the stretch. Im gonna take my time today and really, really make sure the strecth won't be too much for me if I go this route.

that is also the reason why I would be getting a separate wiring harness for those bars. I wanna be able to have the ability to go back to apes quick if need be.

Looks like your speedometer is going to be in your throat.

Hahahaha. Just about. Which is ok. I never look at that stupid thing anyways.

I'm thinking on removing that speedometer. Maybe getting a console that doesn't have one molded into it. I should still be able to ride without it right? My fuel gauges still work, that's all I really need to keep an eye on while ridding.

The narrower your bars get, the more heavy your front end feels. You lose the leverage wider bars give you. The raked front end and narrow bars will feel much heavier than a front end with less rake and wider bars. Going to those clip on bars will make your front end feel 50 lbs heavier when turning. You won't be able to turn as quickly in the curves, and you'll feel the "added" weight at low speeds. You'll pretty much have a bike that is built for only going in a straight line for short periods of time.

To get an idea of what it will feel like to be in that position for a longer ride, sit on the floor and bend over to touch your toes. Obviously don't bend all the way over. Just far enough to match the approximate angle on your bike. Then have someone push against your chest while you try to stay bent over. Do that for about an hour straight. You'll see how quickly it can wreck your back.

It would look cool at Bike Night. However, to anyone who actually puts miles on their bike, they'll know you're either really sore or don't ride much.

Ahhhhh. Didn't think about the leverage part! You make a lot of sense. I'm glad I started this thread before I went ahead with the project.

I'm starting to see a bigger picture that I was missing before.

Anyone else ?
