Default buying first bike in January

I have been looking at the blackline for a couple months now. This is my first motorcycle only have a little experience riding a dirt bike and rode my dad's sportster 1200 once got me hooked. Was wanting to double check that this will be a good bike for me to start with and keep for a while before I made the purchase I wanted some input from seasoned riders

I am assuming you are planning to get a blackline used as they are no longer sold new. Do I recommend an inexperienced rider buying a 700 plus lbs expensive motorcycle? No, no I do not but it isn't my money or my life so have at it. Welcome to the STF dude.

I've read quite a few posts regarding firsts bikes, buying a starter bike, and just thought I would give my couple of pennies. I started riding almost 25 years ago after purchasing a used Suzuki GS 650. I never was on a bike prior to picking it up. Just got a wild hair up the ****, wanted to ride to Sturgis (1200 miles round trip), 18 and thought I knew it all so I bought the bike... not one riding lesson and had the time of my life. Needless to say, I had to give it up and, after 25 years, bought a 2014 Fatboy the night before I took my safe rider course. I put 3000 miles on it in just under 2 months and, sadly, put it away for the winter. My point is I picked up what I wanted knowing I was an inexperienced rider. I just took it slow and realized my limitations.....no regrets :-)

my first bike about 12 years ago was a zx6r (600cc sport bike), i prob should've started on something less (so i couldn't recommend starting on a big cruiser or super sport bike)... but as long as you take the safety course and take it easy you will be fine! I've owned over 25 bikes now from super motos to a 9' choppers with 300mm rear and been ok. it becomes an addiction!!! just don't push it above your limits.

btw congrats on deciding to get bike, it will be the best decision you make!

The balance with a Softail does make it a good first large bike. It feels much more balanced than many heavier bikes.

Lots of folks say a sportster is a good starter bike, but to me, its way more top heavy than my softail. You sit down in the bike, not on it.

Good starter bike = Buell Blast...cheap, lightweight and economical.

Wouldn't recommend starting off with the Blackline...JMO. FWIW, I started on a Rupp Sprint minibike...=8^)

Get the training, take it easy, ride it sober, treat it with respect like a loaded gun. I would recommend you make that you don't over spend, I bought my first bike at 20 and had to get rid of it because the payment and insurance were killing me. It took me several years to be able to saddle up again.

having never ridden a motorcycle, i signed up for the MC safety course july 2013 ..
they provided 250 cc MC's.
rented a heritage 2 weeks later..
bought used heritage in aug .
wouldnt change a thing..

i believe in getting what you want and learning how to use it properly..
study and take your time to do so..
